How to Find the Perfect Web Hosting Company

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

So you have a web site and now you need to figure out where to host it. There are many choices but not too many affordable, reliable solutions. So how do you know which one to choose? What makes a hosting company good? Here are some general guidelines you can use to help you find the perfect hosting company. * Is their website professional looking? It's safe to assume that if a hosting company has a sloppy looking website then the company is also run sloppily. You don't want to get stuck dealing with a company that's run by a bunch of kids out of a garage.

* Is their customer service available by phone during business hours and by email 24/7? Many Hosting companies take a long time to get back to you and some don't even have a phone number listed. You can get an idea about how good customer service is by contacting them anonymously with a question. See if they answer the phone and/or get back you quickly. This will help you gauge how long it will take them to get back to you once you're a paying customer. *Are they charging too little or too much? Remember the old saying "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is". This is very true when it comes to web hosting. If they are charging under $5 it is likely that the service is poor and their technology is antiquated. Also if the prices seem astronomically high, it's likely you're being ripped off. There is no regulation when it comes to web hosting pricing so some companies will charge an arm and a leg hoping that someone "bites". So keep in mind that you want to find a hosting company that provides superb support, stability and value. Don't be fooled by ridiculous claims and don't assume that paying more means you're getting more.

Cheap Web Hosting Packages for You

By anand maheshwari

Web hosting offers you the opportunity to put your web site online, it''s the only way you can do it. Websites that offer free web site hosting usually aren"t really free when you consider the benefits you must give up. No matter how large or small in content your web site happens to be it has to go onto a web server. A web server is simply a larger and much more powerful computer than your own. A gaudy lacework hosting establishment should accept the needs of your action and ball game with you to support you hoard them. The best cheap web hosting companies provides 24 hours technical support. Your internet content simply sits on this server for people to access and view your information. The web servers are stored within data centers, all you are simply doing is renting some space on the server.

Web hosting companies will look after and update all software required to maintain your site, . Most free web site hosting offers give you free space on another company''s website, but you are not getting actual domain hosting. They will also add all security patches making sure your content is safe from hackers, viruses and unwanted spam, if you run into any difficulties you will have a full technical support team to help you out. To host your own will cost too much on hardware, bandwidth and ongoing software updates. You are getting one or a few of your web pages displayed on someone else''s domain. Once you register your domain name you have to have it hosted for the public to view your information.

Shared web hosting is simply a server that has a number of different web sites sitting on it simultaneously. When shopping for cheap web hosting, be sure to compare web site hosting packages not only prices. You will be allocated a certain amount of disk space on the server and this may allow you to have a number of web sites hosted on the one server. Because this is the case, they should and quote 24/7 technical support. You don"t want a company that will only talk to you during their eight to five business hours, especially if they are based in another country, in a different time zone. Shared web hosting is a very secure service even though you could be sharing the server with many different companies.

Adsense Ready Websites Can Help You Make Quick Money

By Kristi Ambrose

For those of us that work at home or more importantly work online, we are always searching for that "Golden Op" to make some extra money. Thankfully for the Internet there are several thousand ways of going about this. A really popular technique is to get an AdSense Ready website. These websites can be bought online very easily or you can have a service provider develop one for you. By definition an AdSense Ready website is usually a Niche website that incorporates Ad type advertisements as well as pre-made content. This is a really nice thing to get into if you are looking to make money with Google because the people that provide these sites usually have some of common knowledge about Search Engine Optimization.

As most of us should know, SEO is an important part of a website because certain attributes bring in the masses as well as the search engines. And, traffic always equals money. Obviously with every site there''s a different way to make money. But with AdSense Ready websites you can make money by people coming to your site and clicking on the ads located on your page. So, what''s with the content exactly? The content is the major part of these websites. If the words on your site are content rich and keyword rich, then it gets picked up by sites like Google and Yahoo and you can become indexed. Becoming indexed is a major part of getting noticed. For example, say I search for TheLemonPlum, a cooking website. You will surely find that it shows up several times on Google. This is because the site content was "crawled" by Google and was indexed. This is what you want! In fact, this is what you should be shooting for on all your sites!

Needless to say with an Google Ready website, you hardly have to do any work whatsoever because the developer has already done it for you. In such cases you might want to do your own content. And, that''s fine. But in several other cases such as people not knowing what to write, or just looking to make money in a quick hurry, Google ready websites are the way to go. Ultra-fast, super easy, on the inexpensive side. What more could someone ask for?!? If you are the type of person that would like to look into something like this try visiting sites that have information about Search Engine Optimization, Pre-made sites, Google Ready sites, or Pre-made AdSense sites. This should give you a pretty good idea about how all this works, as well as what is expected of you and some prices as well.

You can check out several websites and or people that make these pre-made adsense ready websites, such as:

Your First Web Hosting Account

Setting up a web hosting account for the first time can be confusing and frustrating for the novice. This article will guide you through the steps of setting up a new web hosting account for your website.

Maybe you haven't yet designed your website. Many web hosts offer online website building software that requires no programming or HTML knowledge. If this is your strategy, make sure your web host offers such software, and find out if there's a cost for you to use it.

Locating a web host that gives you the reliability you need, plus excellent customer service, and that offers all the features you're going to need, can be challenging.

You can begin your search by asking business associates, friends and relatives who have websites of their own, who they use. Just as you would get a recommendation for a good restaurant, word of mouth can sometimes steer you in the right direction.

You can also check out the many web hosting directories on the web. These directories are set up to allow you to search using the features that you're looking for in a web host. Keep in mind though, that many of the listings you see may also be paid listings that are pushed your way for obvious reasons.

Once you narrow down your search to a few potential web hosts, your next step will be to visit the many web hosting message boards and forums on the web. Perform a search on each of the potential web hosts that you have in mind - read through the posts and see what other people's experiences have been with the hosts you have in mind. If you see too many negative comments or experiences by others, you might want to take a hint from that and rule out that particular hosting company.

Once you've narrowed down your search to a few web hosts, you should make contact with them and get answers to any questions you have. Since you're a beginner at this, you might strongly consider using a web host that provides telephone support. A web host that provides only email support may not be able to fully answer questions that you have - this applies to sales questions as well as support questions.

When you make your inquires, keep track of which host responds to you the quickest. Which of these hosts answers your questions patiently and takes the time to go over details with you? Do they seem more interested in getting you to sign up, or do they address topics you have no concern about, beware of those danger signs.

Most web hosts have multiple plans that you can choose from. The trick is to choose a web hosting plan that provides you the features you actually need, without choosing a plan that offers you features you don't need, or may never use. This is probably the most difficult thing a novice will be faced with when choosing a web host. You'll need to choose a plan that strikes an even balance between what you need right now and what you may need a month or two down the road. Your website might remain the same size as it is today, by next year; however, your site may grow quickly, requiring additional resources in a relatively short period of time.

The last thing you should do before signing up for a web hosting account is to read your web host's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy), and/or their TOS (Terms Of Service), and/or their SLA (Service Level Agreement). Make certain that you understand and agree with your new web host's policies, and that your website does not break any of your new web host's rules and regulations. By not reviewing your new host's contracts with you, you may find your website and email shut down without prior notice for breaking a rule you were not aware of, or you might end up paying for fees you didn't know you were liable for.

The Five Components Of Successful Website Design

By Shane Hester

We all know that successful website design involves more than meets the eye. If it''s possible to break websites down, these would be the five components of successful design.

Component One: Eye Appeal

Success relies on eye appeal to draw a visitor in and keep them around for awhile. While what makes a website appealing to the eye can certainly vary from one kind of website to another, components that have a major effect include color palettes, photos, graphics, logos, fonts, font sizes, and even the spacing between lines of text. You know when you stumble across a great site that just immediately feels right? That''s a design working through eye appeal.

Component Two: Written Content

While it is extremely important for a website to be attractive to the visitor''s eye, even more important is the actual content itself. About ninety-nine percent of the time, a website''s visitor didn"t visit just to look at the site''s design. Instead, they came to the site hoping to find some type of information they"ve been seeking. What that information is can be completely different from one site''s niche to another, but one thing is certain - visitors want quality and substantial content.

Component Three: Effective Navigation

Did you ever visit a really great website with awesome looking graphic design and plenty of content, but you just weren"t able to get to what you really were looking for? Clear and effective navigation is a critical component of successful web design. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked in favor of some flashy kind of navbar menu. Common sense says that having search helps, but when it comes to effective navigation, visitors still love a traditional top or sidebar navigational menu - it''s just what makes the most sense to the most site users.

Component Four: Compliant Coding

Even though most visitors will never even see it, having clean, standards-compliant coding behind the scenes is of the utmost importance. Experts at web design know that a site always performs better with clean and accurate coding. Plus, search engines also rely on certain components of the coding to understand, rank, and list a website as efficiently as possible.

Component Five: Functional Feedback

What is functional feedback? Well, it can be any number of things, including a call to action, getting a visitor to click on an ad, converting visitors to sales, and persuading a visitor to call or write for more information. Basically, functional feedback is when a visitor responds to a website''s purpose in a desirable way. Good website design takes this into account and "funnels" visitors towards that desired action - helping both the visitor and the site owner.

Do take notice that each of these five components of website design complements each other. By getting all of them to work together, the big picture of successful web design really begins to shape up.

Importance of Referrer Logs and Tracking

By Garey Simmons

The process of referrer logging allows web servers and websites to identify the sites from which people are visiting them, either for promotional or security purposes. You can discover what search engine they used to find your site, and whether your customer has come from a linked site. This basically amounts to the URL of the previous webpage from which your link was followed. In short, you can determine where your visitors are coming from which can be useful information in many cases, to optimize the success of your site.

By default, the majority of hosting accounts don"t include referrer logs; but they may be accessed from your provider for an additional monthly fee. If your web host does not provide a graphic report of your log files, you can still view the referrer logs for your website by logging into the host server, using free or low-cost FTP software, like those outlined below. This software will give you optimum results in this area.

FTP Explorer: ftpx dot com
LogMeIn: logmein dot com
SmartFTP: smartftp dot com
FTP Voyager: ftpvoyager dot com

The log file is available via your web server, which can be downloaded into your computer at a later date. You can use a log analysis tool, like those mentioned below, to create a graphic report from your log files so that the files are more easily comprehended.

Abacre Advanced Log Analyzer abacre dot com
Referrer Soft softplatz dot com
Log Analyzer loganalyzer dot net

You can view these files with the use of programs such as Word, Word Perfect, txt or WordPad files, even if you don"t possess the right tool. Do not neglect this important point, as this information is crucial to your business and marketing plans. This is a process that must be followed to ensure your success in this area.

In addition to identifying the search engine or linked site from where your visitor came, referrer logs can specify keywords or keyword phrases your client used to search. This is also important, as you can track the reasoning behind their visits to your site.

As referrer information can sometimes violate the privacy of the Internet surfer, certain browsers permit the user to disable the sending of referrer information. Proxy and Firewall software can filter out referrer information, to avoid pinpointing the location of private websites. This can result in other difficulties, as servers block portions of their sites to browsers who fail to send the correct referrer information, in an attempt to prevent deep linking or unauthorized use of bandwidth. Some proxy software gives the top-level address of the target site itself as the referrer, which prevents these difficulties and still not divulging the user''s last visited site.

Since the referrer can be spoofed or faked with a great degree of ease, it is of limited use in this regard, except of course on a casual basis. Even so, it can come in handy when trying to profile your visitors, and exactly where they come from.

How To Submit Your Website To Website Directories

By Deep Arora

The position that your site holds in the search engine rankings is often closely tied with how well connected you are. That simply means how well you are connected to other sites, do you have authority websites or indeed any websites pointing in your direction. Whilst there is no doubt that having a link with an authority site is an ideal way to boost your ranking, the reality is that for a small or niche business this may be difficult or expensive to achieve. For this reason an alternative such as a directory can be a much better option.

A web directory is a site that collates links and sorts them into categories. These categories are available to the public and can be a valuable resource for people looking for information. It is not a difficult process to get your site listed in a directory, and there is the option to get listed for free, but this can take some time; or to pay a one off fee that places your site in the directory.

The greatest benefit to having your site linked via a web directory is that you automatically generate a degree of link popularity. Important factors that you will want to look at once you have done this are the ranking of your site in the directory, this means what page rank you have overall in the directory, and what rank you have for your particular category in the directory. After this you need to look at where you are listed on the page that you are on, and the number of competing sites. The number, quality and how competitive you are against those other competitor sites is very important once you reach that point.

There are some pros and cons to using web directories as a link building option. Firstly the benefit of a web directory is that it is often much cheaper to establish a link via a web directory than with some authority sites, requiring a one time fee to be part of a web directory as compared to monthly fees to remain connected with authority sites. The downside of this is that whilst a web directory is a good option for establishing link popularity and for traffic building, the directory is essentially a hub, it has no nice or authority website status. This is fine if you are looking at the bigger picture of building link popularity and boosting traffic flow. If you accept the limitations of directories and weigh up your options you may find a good authority site in your area which may be a more suitable option.

The major web directories such as Yahoo will bring in a decent amount of traffic, so if you are looking at this side of things then a one off fee to these directories is a further option to boost your traffic flow. You should know several things if you wish to use directories for this purpose. To start with, directories are often utilized for establishing link popularity, therefore smaller directories may help with links, but they do not offer much in the way of extra traffic. Also bear in mind that many directories offer listings in a first come first serve basis, or simply just alphabetically and the search algorithms used vary greatly from one directory to the next. Paying to be part of many directories then starts to become somewhat less attractive when you consider these things.

There are distinct benefits and drawback to having your site listed in a directory. Weigh up your options and see how you view the investment of time and money to list in a directory fitting in with your overall plans for link building and site traffic, and then you will be in a position to evaluate what benefits directories may offer you. Like many things, you may find that a mixture of several different option will best provide just the solutions you are looking for.
