A Short Guide To Web Designing
By Anna Stenning
The concept of web design and web designing is something that nearly everyone with a computer or internet access is familiar with. Websites are something that many businesses and individuals have come across or setup as a way to provide easy accessible information and data at just a click of the mouse. Not all websites are visited at the same time, and not all have the same number of visits as each other, the design of each website and the content make a huge difference on the amount of visits they receive on a daily basis.
However, over one hundred million websites on the internet, how can a simple unique web design for your business gain the recognition it needs to attract regular customers? The answer lies in Search Engine Optimisation, a method in which websites are optimised to be indexed and ranked highly in popular search engine programmes. The competition to be ranked highly in search engine programmes is fierce and immensely difficult, which many of the web designers that create a unique web design need to take into consideration of SEO features.
When setting up a website there are many things that need to be considered such as the prospect of having to update information on the pages, getting enough content information on the page and coming up with short and punchy domain name. Businesses very rarely advertise themselves without a site and often find that having a site draws in more customer service. The problem with our modern world is that many companies are jumping on this opportunity, causing more companies to compete against each other and raise the bar in web designing.
As a web designer or for people looking into web designing, they must learn the very basic priniciples, which is creating a website from scratch using a mark up language. Before beginning to learn the ropes in search engine optimisation, it is a good idea to start with the building works such as picking up HTML coding. This is a mark up language that allows the user to create a flat design and is used to describe the information as a document by denoting the text as links, headers, lists, paragraphs and more.
Learning the basics of HTML is a good platform to increasing your understanding of building a website. Web design methods however do not stop at HTML, but have many other mark up languages such as PHP (allows command line interface and dynamic web designing), XML, XHTML and other more complex languages such as Cold Fusion. For a beginner the best place to start is to have the latest version or even the basic version of Dreamweaver. This is a programme which allows you to practise your HTML coding and web designing techniques through a simple step-by step tutorial exercise. The skills learnt on a basic programme as this will allow you to become familiar with other design programmes.
Web design methods are always constantly changing, so it is always reading up on forums from experienced designers. Forums normally provide information share new information, including providing tips and advice on designing methods. The only thing about web designing is that it takes practise and determination. One cannot simply finish a course without ever having applied their knowledge or spent time alone at home dabbling on Dreamweaver. These do require some level of creativity and flair, therefore the more you practise the better you will be at producing sought after sites.
